Why Accelerated Flight Training Works: Earning Your Private Pilot License in 14 Days

The problem with once-a-week lessons

Most people learn to fly one or two lessons a week, squeezed around work and family. It works, but it's slow, and a lot of each lesson goes to re-learning what you forgot since the last one.

Accelerated training flips that. You fly every day, learn every day, and build on yesterday while it's still fresh. At FastWings Academy, our Private Pilot program runs 14 days out of Van Nuys Airport (KVNY). Here's why training this way works so well, and how to tell if it's right for you.

5 benefits of accelerated flight training

1. You remember what you learned yesterday

Flying is a physical skill as much as a mental one. When a week or two passes between lessons, your landings, radio calls, and checklists get rusty. Training daily keeps everything sharp, so each flight builds on the last instead of starting over.

2. You get your certificate in weeks, not months or years

Part-time students often take many months to finish, sometimes longer when schedules, weather, or life get in the way. An accelerated program puts your full focus on flying for a short, defined stretch. You set a start date, and you have a clear finish line.

3. Consistent, one-on-one instruction

In our program you train 1-on-1 with the same experienced CFIs, around 8 hours of flight and ground training per day. Your instructor knows exactly where you are and what you need next, so no time is wasted catching up.

4. Less time waiting for your checkride

Finishing your training is only half the battle. Many students wait weeks for a checkride slot with an examiner. At FastWings, we work directly with Designated Pilot Examiners (DPEs), which helps cut down that wait so you can test while your skills are at their peak.

5. Real-world experience in busy airspace

Van Nuys is one of the busiest general aviation airports in the world. Training here every day means you get comfortable with a busy control tower, complex Los Angeles airspace, and real traffic fast. That confidence carries with you wherever you fly next.

Is accelerated training right for you?

Accelerated training isn't for everyone, and we'd rather you know that up front. It's a great fit if you:

  • Can clear about two weeks for full-time training

  • Want to finish quickly for a career move, a new aircraft, or a personal goal

  • Learn best by immersion rather than a little at a time

  • Are ready to show up focused and rested every day

The honest tradeoffs: full days of flying and ground school are demanding, and you'll be tired at night. Weather or maintenance can occasionally stretch the schedule. And you need to arrive prepared, which brings us to the most important step.

How the FastWings 14-day Private Pilot program works

  1. Pass your written test first. You'll take the FAA Private Pilot Knowledge Test before you arrive. We recommend a self-paced course like King Schools or Sporty's: study, score 90% or higher on practice tests, then take the real test.

  2. Reserve your dates. A $1,000 deposit locks in your program, with the balance due 10 days before you start.

  3. Fly every day. Two weeks of 1-on-1 flight and ground training out of Van Nuys, covering all FAA-required material.

  4. Take your checkride. With direct DPE access, you test while everything is fresh.

The program is $16,800 with aircraft included (dry). Keep in mind the FAA requires a minimum of 40 flight hours for a Private Pilot Certificate.
